Adding a little CBD to your tea just makes a good thing even better. You’ll smooth over any caffeine jitters with a little extra calm, while staying focused and refreshed. And, making CBD-infused tea is easy, right? Just boil water, throw a teabag in a cup, wait a little, stir in some CBD and you’re in business, right?

Sort of.

Sure, you can make a passable cup of CBD tea that way, but for an *incredible* cup of tea, just put a little more thought into the process. Luckily, that’s easy! Here are four simple tips for the best CBD tea ever, plus two master recipes to get you started.

Adding CBD to your tea smooths over any caffeine jitters with calm and focus.

Start with a quality tea. Well-made teas start with fresh, well-treated tea leaves. To make sure you’re getting the best, first do a sniff test: A truly fresh tea will be full of aroma. Then, check the leaves: With whole-leaf teas, leaves should look freshly dried and intact. If you’re using teabags, avoid brands with small leaf fragments, or “dust,” which can produce a more bitter, cloudy tea. The bags should allow plenty of room for the leaves to expand (and release all that wonderful tea flavor!).

Choose a CBD that mixes well. It all begins with flavor (or lack thereof). CBD can be extremely bitter, and can also come with “hempy,” grassy flavors that can compromise the flavor of your tea. Mixability also matters: since oil and water don’t mix, CBD oils and tinctures can float on the surface of your tea and stick to the sides of your cup, so you’ll get less of the CBD you expected (and paid for!).

Caliper CBD Dissolvable Powder is the perfect partner for any type of tea you’re brewing. Its flavorless powder won’t compromise the taste of your tea–and it dissolves quickly and cleanly into any beverage, hot or cold. That means that you’ll get all the CBD you expect, from your first sip to the last.

CBD oils and tinctures add off-flavors and float on the surface of your tea. Caliper CBD won’t compromise the taste of your tea, and you’ll get CBD in every sip.

Use fresh, cold water. To make sure your tea has no off-flavors or chemicals, always start with cold, filtered water. For the freshest, most vibrant-tasting tea, don’t reuse water that’s been sitting in your kettle. It loses a little oxygen every time it’s boiled–and re-used, lower-oxygen water equals flatter-tasting tea!

Watch temperature and time. Be sure to bring your water to a full boil, and use some to warm your cup (or teapot) first, so the temperature stays fairly constant throughout steeping. Always follow instructions on the tea package: brewing temperatures can range from a full boil (212°F) for black teas to 180° F for green teas, and steeping times can be anywhere between 3-6 minutes. Anything outside of that range will usually result in a weak, understeeped brew–or bitter, grassy “oversteeped” flavors.

Caliper CBD-Infused Hot Tea

Serves 1  /     20mg CBD per serving

Turn your favorite tea into a  “perfect cuppa” with this easy method. Serving more than one? Just multiply the recipe as needed. For best results, be sure to warm up your cup first with hot water (or your teapot, if making a big batch).

1 (20mg) packet Caliper CBD Dissolvable Powder

Bring the water to a full rolling boil.

Pour out the prewarming water from your cup, and place the tea bag or tea strainer inside. Add boiling water as directed on the tea package: If making black tea, pour in immediately;  if making green or oolong tea, let the water stand until it reaches the desired steeping temperature first.

Steep according to package directions (usually 3-6 minutes) removing the tea from the water immediately once it has fully brewed. Stir in the Caliper.

Add lemon, milk or sweetener as desired, and enjoy.

If you’ve never made iced tea “from scratch,” you’ll be blown away at how much fresher and better it is than the pre-made stuff. Let this simple recipe be a starting point for all kinds of creativity: Start with your favorite tea blend and garnish with fresh citrus, herbs, or cucumbers to complement the flavors.

2 quarts (8 cups) fresh, cold, filtered water, divided

4 tea bags, or 4 teaspoons loose tea leaves

Sweetener (sugar, honey, maple syrup, or alternative sweetener – optional)

4 (20mg) packets Caliper CBD Dissolvable Powder

Garnishes as desired (try sliced lemon, lime and/or orange, mint or other fresh herb sprigs, cucumber slices)

Bring 1 quart (4 cups) of the water to a full rolling boil.

Place the teabags/tea strainer into a 4-cup measuring cup or another heatproof vessel.

Pour in boiling water as directed on the tea package: If making black tea, pour in immediately;  if making green or oolong tea, let the water stand until it reaches the desired steeping temperature first.

Steep according to package directions (usually 3-6 minutes) removing the tea from the water immediately once it has fully brewed. Stir in the sweetener, if using, and the Caliper. Let cool to room temperature.
