With so much upheaval in the world this year, the comfort of tradition is more welcome than ever at the holidays—especially in our holiday recipes. Here’s a fresh take on two of our favorites, with a little CBD to add to the joy!
Peppermint Hot Chocolate with CBD
Serves 4 / 10mg CBD each
Trust us: After this, you will never go back to the instant stuff. Peppermint gives it a chocolate-mint patty vibe, but omit it if you like; it’ll still be the best hot chocolate you’ve ever tasted! For a vegan version, use vegan dark chocolate instead of bittersweet, swap 2 cups coconut ‘creamer’ for the milk, omit the heavy cream, and top with vegan marshmallows instead of cream.
3 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sugar
1¾ cups whole milk
½ cup heavy cream, divided
2 (20mg) packets Caliper CBD
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
⅛ teaspoon peppermint extract
Crushed candy canes, to garnish (optional)
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the chocolate, cocoa and sugar, until chocolate begins to melt. Slowly whisk in the milk, then ¼ cup of the cream. Cook, whisking gently, until the mixture comes to a simmer, then remove from the heat. Whisk in the Caliper, vanilla, and peppermint extract; cover and let stand 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
Just before serving, whip the remaining ¼ cup heavy cream, if using, to soft peaks.
Warm the hot chocolate over low heat until steaming. Strain into 4 mugs, top each with a dollop of whipped cream and garnish with crushed candy canes if using, and enjoy! You’re welcome.
Cheddar and Caliper CBD Cheese Ball
Serves 6 / 10mg CBD per serving
Grandma was right: It’s always the most craveable app on the table! Here, we’ve given it a sophisticated ingredient upgrade: A little kick of horseradish and cayenne, and some CBD to put everyone in the holiday spirit. For the richest flavor buy the sharpest, most-aged cheddar you can find and skip the pre-grated stuff. You’ll be glad you did!
12 ounces (1½ bricks) regular cream cheese (do not use low-fat)
5 ounces extra-sharp cheddar, shredded (about 1 cup)
3 (20mg) packets Caliper CBD
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
2 teaspoons honey
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, or more to taste
1½ cups sliced almonds or finely chopped pecans
Crackers, for serving
In a large mixing bowl with a spatula, thoroughly combine the cream and cheddar cheeses, Caliper, horseradish, honey, and pepper until well blended. Lightly grease your hands and shape the mixture into a ball.
Spread the almonds or pecans into a shallow bowl, and roll the ball in the nuts to coat it all over. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours. Serve with crackers.
